solo-show

«solo-show» is the final public exhibition at the Reg Vardy Gallery, located within the art school at Ashburne House, University of Sunderland. The show takes as its point of departure it’s architectural space, and it’s historic, current, and future circumstances, and the work of artist Kate Liston, who has extended invitations to 14 artists and writers to participate in the exhibition, which attempts to both question and raise ideas around visitors expectations of the solo-show; about public and private, authorship and collaboration, site and space, solo and group, and the relationships between the artist and curator, site, and audience.

The exhibition solo-show was a collaborative curatorial project with Sam Watson held in 2012. It included the commissioned work The Catalogue is Wholly Subsidiary, which responded to the specificity of the Reg Vardy Gallery’s location in a park named after a man who charted all the stars visible to the naked eye in this place. The work was subsequently shown as a single channel video in The Reading Room at Grand Union, Birmingham.
