The Parasite

The Parasite, 2021, digitised B&W 8mm reversal film, 15 minutes.

The Parasite tells fragments of a story about being bitten by a tick while breastfeeding. Through text laid over footage of rural Northumbrian settings, parallels are drawn between the parasitism of the tick and the child, whose pre-lingual utterances are included in the collage-like soundtrack. View the full film here.

The Parasite was commissioned by VARC as part of ENTWINED: Rural, Land, Lives, Art. It was shown in the exhibitions ENTWINED: Rural, Land, Lives, Art at Highgreen, Tarset and at Assembly House, Newcastle upon Tyne. You can view the full PDF of the ENTWINED publication here.
